Smart development refers to the social and economic development supported by smart technologies such as artificial intelligence, sensors, robots, and blockchains. Smart development emphasizes a highly connected society between people, things and the environment by integrating cyberspace and physical space, as symbolized by Japan’s Society 5.0. This transdisciplinary field fosters human resources that can contribute to smart development, especially the development of smart mobility, smart energy, smart agriculture, and smart health.
